About tour
If you have a spare day to spend in Melbourne, choose our fun-filled Mount Dandenong and Phillip island Secrets full day tour to get the best ratio of activities and memorable locations that will surprise you.
This is not a standard tour, but a specially selected itinerary with most worthwhile destinations picked for our guests. This special tour is a combination of the best spots from two different tours that most tour companies normally offer over 2 days: Blue Dandenongs (or Dandenongs National Park) tour and Phillip island tour. We have weeded out the most exciting parts of these two different locations and combined them into one superb tour for you to enjoy.
Your day will start with a trip from central Melbourne to the beautiful Dandenong Ranges – the closest national park to the city, where you will travel with your guide to the most picturesque and exciting spots. You will travel across the park starting on one side of the Dandenong mountain range, climbing (by car) to the top mountain with a stop at a lookout with a great view of Yarra Valley and Yarra river. You will stand on top of the mountain enjoying the grand view of Melbourne’s metropolitan area from a distance of 50 kms and even climb through a “wishing” hole in an old tree, which locals believe helps your wishes come true (Tested! It works!)
You will walk with our guide through our secret locations in the pristine forest of tall mountain eucalyptus trees where most people never walk and enjoy the unspoiled forest, the sounds of wild birds and the scent of wild plants. You can even hold some wild birds on your hands or feed them in the forest as they fly up to you. Our amazing tour guide will show you the best spots for amazing photos between the trees and under tall fern trees or inside a large tree hole.
After the walk in the beautiful forest you will board the famous Puffing Billy train for a 30 minute exciting ride on a real old time steam train fuelled by coals and water through the tall trees forest and fern valleys. Our tour guide will travel by car to pickup you up at another station and take great pictures of you inside the train driver’s cabin and with the steam train in the background. This will be a short but memorable ride onboard a real steam train which huffs and puffs with lots of steam among tall eucalyptus trees and across old bridges. The Puffing Billy train is very popular with kids and adults alike, so we will reserve the best seats for you in advance and explain where to look for best views.
If you have some morning hunger we can stop by a popular local pie shop to have a short break with a cup of tea or coffee and a freshly made local meat pie (or veggie pie). This is probably one of best spots in Australia to try a real aussie pie.
After the first part of the day spent at Dandenong national park we will head to Phillip island which is quite far away, but to make your time more fun we will make a stop at a small private animal park. Here you will walk around with your guide meeting wallabies and kangaroos, dingoes and emus, koalas and even a Tasmanian devil! You will be amazed how close and well you can see and enjoy these australian animals all in one location. You can even walk safely among large kangaroos, pat them and feed them from your own hands.
Our next destination will be a small seaside fishing village from a hearty meal of local seafood. This is a great spot with freshest food where most local go for their locally caught fish or calamari, oysters or scallops. It’s hard to find any better seafood at a better location than this small cafe by the seaside. And you will definitely tell your friends about this delicious spot you will discover on our tour.
After the meal we will finally arrive at the Phillip island famous for its wild penguins show. However unlike most other tour companies, we do not head straight to the Penguin parade, which happens on;y after sunset. Instead we have plenty of time to explore the beautify of Phillip island, see its beaches and sand dunes, walk among the trees to a hidden lake with black swans and Cape Barren geese. We will also take you to the most remote tip of Phillip island – the Nobbies head, where your tour guide will take you for a walk to enjoy magnificent ocean views and try to spot some penguins and other wildlife. This is an amazing wild place with lots of wildlife around and we will travel through a small hidden road slowly looking for wild wallabies, penguins, birds, echidnas and relishing the views of the black volcanic cliffs beneath us and Southern Ocean in front of us. This will be a special place to see the sunset prior to heading to the Penguin parade, where hundreds of penguins will start coming out of the ocean waters and walking towards their homes. Again, unlike most tour guides and other tours, we will walk you to the best spot to be to enjoy the view of these amazing wild creatures marching right next to you within an arm’s reach. This will be one of the most unforgettable wildlife experiences in your life, standing so close to dozens of wild penguins walk right next to you. Our speacial tour guide will tell you funny facts about these funny little birds called Little Penguins, which are in fact the smallest among penguins. You will hear penguins’ calls around you and enjoy the views of penguins coming out of the sea, running across the beach to a safe place and later walking next to you to their homes.
